Mission
The AIDS Council of Northeastern New York is a not-for-profit human service agency whose mission is to reduce the risk, fear, and incidence of HIV infection, encourage the independence of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and promote understanding of their needs.
Vision
The AIDS Council of Northeastern New York advances awareness of HIV/AIDS as a public health risk, promoting a shared community response leading to a world without AIDS.
Confidentiality
Maintaining client confidentiality is a core value of the AIDS Council. People living with HIV/AIDS can often face discrimination and stigma and the agency is responsible for ensuring clients’ information is not disclosed without written permission. The AIDS Council is mandated under federal and state law to keep all client information confidential. It is critical that staff understand the importance of client confidentiality and is equipped with the information and training necessary to adhere to confidentiality policies and procedures. Breaches of confidentiality are serious; they erode our clients’ trust in us, compromise our professionalism as an agency, and expose us to potential legal action.
What We Do
In operation for more than 25 years, the AIDS Council is the preeminent provider of AIDS services in a fifteen county region in Upstate New York with offices in Albany, Hudson Falls, Hudson, Plattsburgh, and Schenectady. The AIDS Council provides comprehensive support services to more than 600 persons living with HIV/AIDS and more than 500 family members each year.
The AIDS Council of Northeastern New York provides a continuum of Client Services to people living with HIV/AIDS and their family members. A compassionate team of case managers works directly with HIV infected individuals to help them access appropriate medical care and support services and provide assistance in following prescribed treatment regimens. We also provide direct financial, food, housing, counseling, and transportation assistance to improve stability in client lives.
HIV is a preventable disease, and the AIDS Council’s
Prevention Services programs offer effective, innovative solutions that make a significant impact on the spread of this devastating disease. We reduce the rate of HIV infection by working both with at-risk and currently infected individuals.
